Share Your Story invites victims and survivors of crime in DC to use art as an act of testimony and self-expression. Following a traumatic event, there is often a process of having to tell and re-tell the unfolding events of what happened. Afterwards, many survivors become silent and may be hesitant to verbally process their experienced incident. Here, however, words do not have to be the primary medium; color, texture, and visual expression will capture what words cannot. The pieces created, by survivors at Share Your Story, will be part of a larger celebration—the Annual NVRDC Fundraiser. This event is hosted each November and includes a special keynote speaker, community partners, food and full bar, etc. A highlighted portion of this event will be a silent auction, which will include art pieces by participating survivors from Share Your Story.
Victimization happens in isolation, but healing takes place with community—NVRDC aims to reach out and rise up for all individuals impacted by crime. We hope that you will reach with us to share your story.
