NVRDC Receives Funding for National Crime Victims' Rights Week 5K Fun Run/Walk
We’re very excited to announce that NVRDC has received funding for the fourth year in a row from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) to promote awareness of crime victims’ rights and services during the 2016 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW). This $5,000 grant is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office for Victims of Crime.
For this year's event, we will host a crime victims’ rights 5K fun run/walk at Hains Point. It will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016—the last day of NCVRW—and participation is free. We’ll invite crime survivors, their friends, their family, and their community to come out to raise awareness for victims’ rights in the District and show their support for all victims of crime. Leading up to the event, we’ll also solicit submissions for original designs to be featured on the front of our participant t-shirts. The back will have space to write a message of encouragement and hope to crime victims. Stay tuned for more information on how you can submit your designs in the coming weeks!

The theme of this year’s NCVRW is “Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope.” It was chosen because it underscores the importance of early intervention and victim services in establishing trust, which in turn begins to restore victims’ hope for healing and recovery. More information on NCVRW can be found on OVC's website.
This is the fourth year that NVRDC has received NCVRW funding to raise awareness for crime victims’ rights in the District. Our past events include a community town hall for victims to share their experiences with local politicians, community activists, and victim service providers, a safety expo and resource fair, and a youth art expo where DC teens presented original artwork inspired by crime victims’ rights and their importance in building safer, stronger communities.
More information about this year's event will be posted here and on Twitter and Facebook. We look forward to seeing you there!
